Whistler 2010

The family went up to Whistler after the Olympics to check out a time share. We also checked out what was left of the Olympics. The girls went tubing with Todd and had a great time. No hiking up the hills anymore. They were on a moving sidewalk to get up the hill.

New York City Part Six

On our last full day in New York City, we decided to take a Circle Tour of Manhattan Island. We travelled on three rivers: the East River, Harlem River and the Hudson River. We started at the Intrepid Military Museum which is an old aircraft carrier. This was very close to where the pilot safely put down the plane in the Hudson River a few years ago.The wharfs are not in use anymore because there is no room for container shipping on the island so this is a unique way to reuse the wharf: A driving range! The World Trade Centre. The twin towers would have been in this skyline at the top of the picture.Staten Island Ferry Leaves from here. The famous Brooklyn Bridge. We travelled under many bridges on our tour.United Nations BuildingAt one point, we were told we might not be able to go up to the Bronx because of the tides. The tide was low enough that we had about one foot clearance.Old Yankee StadiumRight beside the old is the new Yankee StadiumThere is a famous children's book called the "The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge" This is the George Washington Bridge on the Hudson River. The Concorde at the Intrepid MuseumLucky Strike BowlingLast dinner in New York: Ruby Foos. New York City Part Five

On Saturday, Todd and Ivan headed over to Long Island to watch the New York Islanders play the Boston Bruins. Ivan's camera was not working so they didn't get any pictures :(. Linda, the girls and I headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It would take a week to see everything just like the Museum of Natural History. We saw the Egyptian exhibit, armour, sculptures and musical instruments.A real mummy! There were many sarcophagi as well as millions of artifacts that range from bead size to temple size!Who wouldn't want sandals made of gold with matching toe and finger covers?Heather and Vanessa joined a class learning about sculptures and techniques. The ended up spending an hour and a half here learning and eventually drawing what their own sculpture would look like. The girls got many compliments from passing patronsTiffany Stain Glass Window. Gorgeous! The armour was amazing. The intricate detail in all the armour must have been immensely painstaking.
