Showboat Time Again

This year's highland dancing recital was celebrating 145 years of Canada. Heather was in the Canadian Pacific Railway dance. She also perfomed the Lilt. Beautiful venue and the weather held out.

First Regatta

Heather had her first regatta to finish off her kayak and canoe lessons. She was a little nervous to race but she got into it more as the day went on and was pleased with the result. She did especially well with the stand-up in the kayak race.

New Additions to Henwarts

We decided to make additions to the coop because there were only three left. We decided to buy pullets around the same age so that there would not be too much pecking. There definitely is a pecking order but we hope these girls will be nice additions. The brown one is names Lavender Brown. She is a breed called the Buckeye. The white one is a Delaware breed and her name is Hedwig. The funniest looking on that is a multicolor of browns is called Trelawny. She is a Salmon Faverolle. She is suppose to pay pink hued eggs and she has a beard and feathers that go all the way down to her feet. She and Lavender are really good natured and could end up being lap chickens the way they allow us to handle them.

La Narrateur

Vanessa was the narrator in her class play "La Poule Maboule". She did a fantastic job memorizing all her lines and presenting the whole thing in French. Tres Bien!

Free Ranging Pros and Cons

Well after the Ginny incident, we wondered if we had anymore roos. I asked the farm who took Ginny if she could help us identify anymore in the pictures. She said that they were all hens. Yay!!! The chickens love to roam the yard. Unfortunately, a week later, I noticed only three hens. Hermoine was taken by a predator. We are not sure what did it as there was no sign of struggle with feathers or anything. The next night, it appears a bear ripped off the door of the coop. He didn't get any but we might have to put up an electric fence now. So as it stands, we are down now to three. We will have to see if we can find some more the same age to add to the flock. Tough lessons for the girls. Yesterday a coyote was in our yard and caught a robin and was eating it. Jigs got a good chase out of that one. Today we had two black tailed deer in the yard. Jigs got another good chase out of that one. It's strange to have all this wildlife all of a sudden. One wild resident that has gone missing is Bunny Foo Foo. He was a brown bunny who was here last year and this year but we have not seen him for a week now. I hope he is okay.

Little Girls Dreams of Princess Dresses

Heather and her friends came to the high school to watch all the girls in their prom dresses. Two couples came in this amazing carriage. Can't get anymore fairytale than that.

Oh Oh! We Have a Roo!

I let the chickens out of the coop today and Ginny came out and cockadoodle dooed three times. Ginny is a Rhode Island Red Rooster. We were kind of wondering about her because she was the most aggressive, the leader, and her comb was more developed. It became all too clear that she was a he!!! It was a hard decision to make but we decided that Ginny had to go. We do not want to have fertilized eggs. In the afternoon, I gave the farm down the way a call and they were happy to accept him. He is now surrounded by many ladies and has a lot more space to roam to do his boy things. My girls were really upset but they know that he is gone to a good and safe home. Good-bye Ginny.
